An ALS lock, commonly known as a bowwire stop, can be used as an adjustable stop, ligation stop, spring actuator, or to prevent bowwire displacement. It is used in narrow spaces where the bowwire cannot be bent for ligation, or in tight spaces between wide molar attachments. An ALS lock can be used with an open helical spring as an adjustable actuator to maintain spring pressure. The ALS lock is secured by placing a slotted bolt on the bowwire and then tightening the nut with a special wrench. It is suitable for bowwires with a maximum diameter of 0.022 inches.
